Speakers

Derrick Tyler
Manager, Software Support

Derrick Tyler started his fire protection design career in 1989 in Grand Rapids, MI. In June of 1996 he went to work for Central Sprinkler’s SprinkCAD group as a Software Support Technician. As an avid fire protection design professional, Derrick is familiar with latest software design platforms and fire sprinkler technology.

Derrick often assists sprinkler designers with SprinkCAD design inquiries such as creating fire sprinkler system layouts, hydraulic calculation reports and material fabrication reports.

In September of 2017, he transitioned into his current role as Manager, Software Support with Johnson Controls.
Rob Smith
Sr. Software Analyst

Rob Smith started his Fire Protection career as a system designer in 1980 in the greater Los Angeles area. Working for a small firm allowed him to quickly experience all aspects of design: from underground to overhead; from layout to hydraulics and stock-listing; from surveying existing structures to designing off blueprints (when they were actually blue!). Working in and around Los Angeles meant working on projects from restaurants to high-rises, Tenant Improvements to sprawling, multi-structure complexes like the Getty Center.

Rob took a position with Central Sprinkler’s SprinkCAD group as a Support Technician and Trainer in 1996. He has taught hundreds of classes on the use of AutoCAD and SprinkCAD as well as specialized training on sprinkler hydraulics, a personal passion.

After Tyco Fire Products purchased Central Sprinkler Company, Rob moved his family to work from Tyco headquarters, then in Lansdale Pennsylvania, in 2001. Now with Johnson Controls, Rob continues to work with the SprinkCAD software suite and other software offerings related to the Fire Protection industries as a software analyst.
